We Went to Mexico

We Went to Mexico

Calexico, California
1000 degrees

Bandcycle kicks ass. Let's just get that out of the way so I don't have to bring it up again. This trip has been everything I wanted it to be. I've stayed on an Indian reservation, seen a rattlesnake, and now the reason for this post, BEEN TO MEXICO!

The ride into Calexico, California was nothing to write homea bout. Lots of border patrol guys in eerie green and white trucks, some sand, and a bunch of straight long roads. Oh, and it was pretty windy. We parked it at the Don Juan Motel. A lovely, two room villa complete with unkown white powder strewn about the floor. I'm sure it was to better compliment the "border city experience". Then we headed south to Mexicali. I know, the names slay me too.

Getting across the border was a lot less hassle than we expected. If they are trying to "finish this danged wall" there is A LOT of work to do. We sort of wandered around the check point area, eventually asking a guard where we were supposed to cross on foot. He responded with a vague wave south. So off we went. After successfully infiltrating our southern neighbor we pursued the new sister city briefly before heading into a taqueria. There we fumbled through the ordering process with some broken Spanish to achieve... quesadillas! Mexican food is truly better in Mexico. At the very least, it's a better story. After dinner we cruised the streets of Mexicali, which soon became dark and uninviting. With thoughts of cartels and machetes in our heads, we turned back north to the safety of our motherland. I can't speak for the rest of the crew, but this Mexican appetizer left me hankering for a shot at the main course.

Mexico, we will meet again.

Love,

Alex
